The trailer for Killing Floor 2 will haunt your dreams

Letting these monsters loose in London was a terrible, terrible idea.

Live-action game trailers are hit-and-miss, especially when they fail to relate the story and images you’ll actually see in the game. The live-action trailer for Killing Floor 2, however, doesn’t mess around.

Killing Floor was originally a 2005 mod for Unreal Tournament. It was released as a retail version by Tripwire Interactive in 2009. As is appropriate for an Unreal derivation, Killing Floor is an arena-type first-person shooter (FPS) in which the player kills increasingly difficult waves of zombie-like clones and “specimens” to earn cash. With it, the player can buy new gear from a vendor and thus keep powering up and trying to stay alive as long as possible.

The story is about a British biotech company whose cloning experiments go horribly wrong. The clones break out of the lab into surrounding London (biotechnology companies really need to learn to stop messing with this stuff). The live-action trailer for Killing Floor 2, reminiscent of Resident Evil and 28 Days Later, shows us what the monstrous jailbreak looked like.

We say with sincerity that this trailer is probably not for the squeamish. Also, if you’re watching this at the office, wear headphones or keep the volume down.

Note that it looks like the whole “zombie rips the backbone and skull out of a victim” scene could have been done with physical effects and not CGI. You have to appreciate the little things, you know?

Killing Floor 2 will be released sometime in 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, and SteamOS.
