We all have fond memories of playing Pokémon on the Gameboy Color back in the day. The formula for traveling, catching, collecting, and trading Pokémon was brilliant.

Fans have always wondered how the game designers meshed together such a perfect formula. The game freaks and DidYouKnowGaming have released a new YouTube video that answers just that.

It’s downright surprising to see how humble the design philosophy was for the game. Satoshi Tajiri wanted to bring city kids the joy of going out and collecting insects, as he did when he was a kid. Tajiri definitely lacked the satanic intentions that some believed he harbored.

There are also some more obscure facts mentioned, like where certain moves originated from or which games are referenced in the music.

This is the fifth part in the DidYouKnowGaming Pokémon series, you can find the other four parts here.
