In what might be 2019’s most obvious bit of brand synergy, the still massively popular Pokémon Go is getting some Detective Pikachu goodies this month to celebrate the movie’s release this Thursday. Here’s everything you need to know about the Pokémon Go and Detective Pikachu crossover event.

Pokémon Go and Detective Pikachu event

Developer Niantec and the Pokémon Company are holding a special event from 1pm on May 7 to Friday, May 17 at the same time. It appears that the main draws will be an increased frequency of appearances of Pokémon from the film (which likely means more Jigglypuff, Pikachu, Psyducks, Mr. Mime perhaps?), and some select Pokémon from the film will appear in raid battles. There’s also a chance players will get photobombed by Detective Pikachu himself, allowing players the chance to catch the little deercap-wearing guy for themselves.

A blog post on the Pokémon Go site says players will earn double XP for catching Pokémon during the event and specially themed field research opportunities will be available. More importantly, you can earn Detective Pikachu cosmetics in the in-game shop. OK, the T-shirts are a little tacky (what is this, a Walmart clothing section?), but look at those cute little ear hats.

Detective Pikachu is out on May 10. You can also revisit the angry Jigglypuff meme here.

In the meantime, you can catch up with our original guide to Pokémon Go and Pokémon Go Gym battles. You can also learn how to level up fast.
