It took just eight days from cofounders Jack Dorsey, Ev Williams, and Biz Stone starting work on the site to the first tweet being sent.

With more than 500 million users, the community has become so significant that the site’s 340 million tweets per day—according to a new post by the company—are being archived in the Library of Congress.

We’ve collected some of the most significant tweets and moments in Twitter’s short history, along with some birthday messages sent by the community.

Happy birthday, Twitter. Here’s to another six years.
