The meteor-like sightings over the Los Angeles sky were apparently part of the filming for Acts of Valor. Or at least that’s what the mayor’s office wants you to believe.

The Reddit community has perhaps solved the mystery of the meteor-like sightings over the Los Angeles sky late Monday night.

Reddit user danelectro15 posted a link to a video clip displaying “fireballs” in the night sky. But their source were a mystery.

Aliens, flares, and fireworks were all theories offered by fellow redditors. Finally, it looks as if one user found the answer.

“Problem solved,” commented Reddit user Omarquazi. “It was a stunt for a movie premier.”

Omarquazi submitted a link to a tweet sent out by Peter Sanders, the press secretary for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

“If you see lights, flares and skydivers above Hollywood,” the tweet read. “Navy SEALS dropping into ‘Act of Valor’ premiere. SEALS star in film. #GoNavy.”

Act of Valor is an action film of modern-day warfare and contemporary global terrorism that is soon to be widely released.

Whether that is indeed the reason for the sightings in the video cannot be verified. We will let you decide.
