  • When it comes to film concepts, “Nazis from the dark side of the moon” sounds like either a sci-fi update to The Producers or some redditor’s late-night fantasy ramblings. Kind of like, you know, “Marines teleporting to ancient Rome.” It was not, of course. But the movieIron Sky, featuring moon Nazis and a Sarah Palin lookalike as presidentwas directed by a two-year redditor, Timo Vuorensola, who took to r/IAmA yesterday.

“How much of your success do you attribute to the novelty of Iron Sky’s premise?” redditor apz1 asked. Vuorensola replied: “A huge load, it’s a great premise and easy to get people excited with, without having to show anything to them.” (r/IAmA)

  • The second-fastest-growing subreddit on Reddit is r/NeutralPolitics, a place “for thoughtful discussion of current events and political issues without resorting to ideological sound bites.” Folks at r/DepthHub, perhaps the toughest audience on Reddit, aren’t buying the concept. But that hasn’t stopped the creator from creating a name for his neutral minions: “They shall be known as Neutrons, and they shall spread throughout the land, bringing the light of empirical political discourse to the heathens.” (r/NeutralPolitics)

  • Another politician you’ve never heard of is doing an AMA. (r/IAmA)

  • The Bestof2011 winners are out. The big winner, you could say, was r/askscience. The subreddit won “Best Big Community” and its moderator team won “Moderator of the Year.” Legendary r/askscience commenter RobotRollCall lost out as commenter of the year, losing to POLITE_ALLCAPS_GUY, who I think it’s fair to say, rode a wave of r/fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu fandom to the top. (r/bestof2011)

  • What actually happens in your brain when you lose consciousness? “Terrible, horrible, no good-verybad things,” says Majidah. The redditor adds: “My lab studies memory and amnesia in patients with concussions or other closed-head injuries. None of us let our kids play contact sports.” (r/askscience)

  • “I don’t always get lucky, but when I do, I almost die”tales of close calls at r/AskReddit. (r/AskReddit)
