Everything that’s wrong with college football has been summarized in one tweet:

“we ain’t come to play SCHOOL.”

That was the message sent by Cardale Jones, a highly touted freshman quarterback for Ohio State University who’s yet to play a down in college. He also tweeted “Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL” and “classes are POINTLESS.”

Jones received considerable Twitter backlash for the messages, including accusations that his Twitter handle, @cordale10, mispelled his own name.

In what appears to be part of the same general rant Friday morning, Jones wrote, “You go to college to major in things your interested in, Im interested in football, what do sociology got to do with me being a better QB.”.

A Topsy search of his cached tweets reveals little else about Jones’s stance on academia, but in August he did tweet “Lmao the whole football team got a class together.”

In January, some media outlets claimed, incorrectly, that Ohio State coach Urban Meyer had banned his players from using Twitter. The coach later really did ban the media from using the service during press conferences, though he lifted that the next day.

He won’t have to ban Jones. He’s already deleted his account.
