A mother in the northwest Washington town of Sedro-Woolley created fake Facebook and Yahoo email accounts to persuade her daughter to stop dating a registered sex offender, reports KCPQ-TV, Seattle’s Fox affiliate.
Julie Myfors grew concerned after she discovered her daughter was dating William Elms, 19, who is a registered sex offender in late July. Myfors contacted police after she trapped Elms in sending her lewd pictures by acting as a minor.
The daughter, 17, had biweekly visits with Elms when she visited her father’s house in Sedro-Wooley.
Myfors’ daughter did not listen to her mother, so Myfors took it into her own hands. She met a girl who was around the same age as her daughter and was friends on Facebook with Elms. Myfors, along with the teen, created a Facebook and Yahoo email accounts to contact Elms as a made-up 15-year-old girl named “Ashley Lynn Brooks.”
Elms accepted “Ashley’s” friend request and the two began communicating. The conversations quickly became “dirty, violent and nasty,” and Elms sent a picture of his genitalia to Myfors.
Elms invited Ashley to go camping with him, telling her that if anyone asked her age during the trip, she should say she was 16.
Myfors turned the conversations over to police and Elms was arrested on Aug. 18. He was arrested after shortly leaving a county jail, where he had been serving time for a probation violation.
The state was supervising Elms for his involvement with a third-degree child molestation conviction, reports the Skagit Valley-Herald. He is being held on $25,000 bail.
No word on whether Myfors’ daughter finally broke up with Elms.
