His teammate said he saw Durant going through TSA security at the same time the photo appeared on his Twitter timeline.

Many a celebrity has claimed “hacking” after an unfortunate photo leak, but basketball star Kevin Durant may actually be telling the truth.

Durant, who plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder, claims his phone tweeted a photo of himself breathing out heavy smoke without his permission while he was busy going through airport security. Durant’s actually been open about his enjoyment of hookah since being spotted at a hookah bar in September, so the photo isn’t particularly damaging.

The picture only garnered attention, really, because it was taken down almost as quickly as it was posted. After sports media took note, Durant took to Twitter to claim he was hacked, adding that rude messages were sent to family members and friends.

His teammate, Nick Collison, backed up his story, saying he saw Durant going through TSA security at the same time the photo appeared on his Twitter timeline.

Durant has since deleted this tweets, but Dime Mag reported they were as follows:

Yoooo somebody hacked my phone though…it’s blowing me, not my twitter my phone

— Kevin Durant (@KDTrey5) January 10, 2014

Textin my contacts crazy messages, my mom, dad brother..disrespecting them..how can u do that

— Kevin Durant (@KDTrey5) January 10, 2014

Obviously it’s me smoking hookah, but I didn’t post it RT@SamsonBaya: “Sorry y’all my phone got hacked” @KDTrey5just own up to it fool

— Kevin Durant (@KDTrey5) January 10, 2014

The tweets were certainly out of character for the image-conscious Durant. Here’s hoping it doesn’t spoil the chances of a Thunderstruck sequel.
