Here’s a look back at key events, stories, and milestones that shaped our first year in print.
You can’t predict what will happen on the Internet, but there are certain things you can expect from the Daily Dot every weekday.
Rain or shine and even on holidays, Kevin Morris compiles the most interesting happenings on his social news site of choice for Reddit Digest. Lorraine Murphy introduces The Morning GIF. Chase Hoffberger highlights five awesome videos in YouTube Guide. And Fernando Alfonso III curates the most creative illustrations on Canvas.
After that, it’s pretty much a free-for-all. We scour the Internet looking for leads, digging deep into our various communities and rifling through Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and RSS feeds. We chat and Skype, tweet and post, tracing stories though revisions in Google docs and reporting back to our makeshift digital newsroom, Yammer.
It’s an entirely unconventional and exhilarating operation, one we’re constantly refining and never take too seriously. And over the course of the past year, we’ve gotten pretty good at it.
But then there are those events and milestones that stop us in our URLs. This interactive timeline traces some of those key dates from our first year.
