Summer succumbed to cancer on Thursday morning. From celebrities to cancer survivors, the Web collectively mourned the announcement.  

On social news site Reddit, 25 threads with “Donna Summer” in the title were created in under an hour. According to Topsy analytics, “Donna Summer” was mentioned on Twitter roughly 300,000 times in less than two hours.

The most tweeted article was the TMZ piece that broke the story of Summer’s death, which received 16,000 mentions.
