Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Buzz Bissinger, currently putting the finishing touches on Father’s Day, is a ranting lunatic on Twitter. Just last Friday, he tweeted that the commentators at Philadelphia’s annual Wing Bowl were “just awarded DonovanMcPuke award.”

But on Wednesday evening, the author posted a rather civil update to his feed, telling his 25,906 followers to connect with him on LinkedIn, the social network reserved for professionals and the professionally minded. So civil the tweet read that it carried the air of an automated message, a social networking slip-up from a man whose Twitter personality is largely built around his inability to convert long-form links into bit.ly links and can’t seem to find a decent picture for his avatar.

“I just joined LinkedIn and created my professional profile,” read the message posted to his account at 8pm EST. “Join my network. http://lnkd.in/QrVsyC #in

The disparate tone and firm understanding of hashtags in his LinkedIn tweet got some people excited about the prospect of an anti-LinkedIn rant from Bissinger. Eight followers favorites the tweet, while three retweeted it, with one, Philadelphia City Council Communications Director Jane Roh, prefacing the retweeted note by writing “!!!”

Those legions were disappointed to see Bissinger’s casual response this morning. “Kept getting notices for LinkedIn. Figured what the fuck b/c of new book. Now it tweets. 2 different accounts that fuck w/ each other. Mess.”

(Bissinger did send four tweets to specific individuals that explained the tweet was sent “accidentally”; that he uses LinkedIn because he’s “prepping for a book tour for new book”; and that he’s been told to “behave and not call anyone a douchejuice or dongasaurus.”)

Even still, there has already been a decent increase to Bissinger’s LinkedIn network. Last night at 9:30pm EST, his profile had 109 connections. Now that number’s climbed to more than 200.

That means people should start getting used to Buzz Bissinger calling your résumé “DonovanMcPuke.”
