More than 5 million New Yorkers are without power, New Jersey’s historic boardwalk is underwater, and the Big Apple’s subway system is shut down following Hurricane Sandy.

As New York’s first responders worked around the clock to save people from their flooded homes and evacuate New York University Langone Medical Center-Tisch Hospital.

All the while, brave and carefree New Yorkers leaned out their windows and stood in knee-deep water to capture photos of the destruction.
