If someone was going to drop you into a pot and boil you alive, you’d probably pick up a knife and try to escape, so you can’t really blame a crab for attempting the same thing.
How this little guy happened to get a knife, and how conscious he was of what he was doing, are questions that go unanswered by the video. What’s not in question is how terrifying it is to watch. In fact, the terror felt while watching a crab wield a knife is probably only surpassed by the terror felt by the crab wielding the knife.
You kind of have to root for the wily crustacean. It’s nice to believe he made it back to the sea with his souvenir in tow, and a story to tell his grandcrabs.
