Pregnant woman does the ‘Tootsee Roll’ in strangely effective prenatal ritual

What else is there to do in times of distress but dance it out?

What else is there to do in times of distress but dance it out? This apparently holds true when the source of your distress is the fact that there is a baby inside you that is taking its sweet time making its grand entrance into the world.

To the tune of 69 Boyz’ iconic jam “Tootsee Roll,” a very pregnant woman bumps and grinds to ease her labor pains—all while she is dilated seven centimeters.

The mother-to-be, Yuki Nishizawa, danced around her room at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston while her husband, Connell Cloyd, filmed her bizarre routine.

“She wanted to be famous, so I guess this is how you do it,” says her bluntly honest husband, off-camera. Her plan apparently worked: The video, posted on YouTube and Facebook, has been viewed almost 4 million times.

Nishizawa continues dancing through the pain, even as she exclaims that her water is breaking. Sure, there might be more efficient, medically sound ways to induce labor, but they probably aren’t half as fun as this. Just look at her radiant smile as she dances, one hand on her soon-to-be-babyless belly.

No word yet from leading medical professionals as to whether the Tootsee Roll will be adopted as the official anthem for inducing labor.
