Donald Trump Jr.’s hot take about the YouTube shooting isn’t going over well.
The eldest son of President Donald Trump used the YouTube shooting on Tuesday, where several people were allegedly shot with a handgun by Nasim Aghdam before she killed herself, to rant about what he perceives as a double standard in the treatment and discussion surrounding mass shooters.
“You think there’s any chance whatsoever that a mass shooters hateful Instagram and YouTube channels would be pulled immediately if they were NRA members as opposed to liberal Vegan PETA activists? Asking for a few million friends in the @NRA” Trump Jr. wrote on Twitter.
Aghdam’s YouTube and Instagram accounts were taken offline following the shooting. The shooting also sparked a litany of speculation and fake news, including one right-wing site’s reporting assuming the shooter was “hired for their ‘inclusiveness and diversity’ initiative.”
Trump Jr. was quite active online in the aftermath of the shooting.
When one Twitter user asked how long it would take people to “blame this on right-wing gun nuts,” the president’s son quote-retweeted them and added:
“They will find a way. Just wait.”
But his initial tweet about the shooter’s social media presence being pulled offline drew the most scorn online.
