California finance billionaire Tom Steyer wrote an op-ed in USA Today on Wednesday, criticizing Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi for saying that impeachment is too divisive an issue.

Steyer is the head of a campaign, Need To Impeach, that calls on members to engage in political actions around impeaching President Donald Trump.

In an interview with the Washington Post on Monday, Pelosi said she does not believe that impeachment is the right course of action to deal with Trump.

“Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it,” she told the Post.

In his op-ed, Steyer maintained that the president has committed multiple impeachable offenses and that “there are enough grounds for action to cover the National Mall with indictments.”

Steyer’s group lists 10 impeachable offenses on its website, ranging from obstruction of justice to undermining press freedom.

Need To Impeach makes videos and encourages supporters to engage in political actions to pressure Democratic lawmakers to impeach the president. On Tuesday, Need To Impeach sent out an email urging supporters to sign a petition to ask Rep. Richard Neal (D-Mass.) to subpoena Trump’s tax returns.

Steyer’s op-ed pushed back on Pelosi’s claim that a move to impeach would not have Republican support. “If you wait for the Republican Party to recognize obvious truths — truths that would protect the country and which the American people overwhelmingly support — you’ll be waiting for a long time,” he wrote.

The Daily Dot reached out to Steyer and Pelosi for comment on the op-ed but did not receive a response by press time.
