Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) wants everyone to know: He personally didn’t like a porn tweet, and he doesn’t care if you use sex toys.

Cruz’s Twitter account liked a post from @SexuallPosts that, when discovered, set the social media platform ablaze with jokes, GIFs, and all of the things you’d expect when a politician’s account likes a porno.

One of the things Cruz didn’t appreciate was people linking his defense of a state law in Texas that banned the sale of sex toys within the state, or more specifically, outlawed possessing any device “useful primarily for the stimulation of human genital organs.”

When confronted with the “irony” of defending that law and his own Twitter account liking a porn tweet, Cruz said it was an example of the media running “with things that are just totally false.”

In the midst of defending himself, Cruz said he wanted to make it perfectly clear: he doesn’t care if people use sex toys.

“I spent five and a half years as the solicitor general in Texas,” Cruz told CNN’s Dana Bash. “I worked for the attorney general. The attorney general’s job is to defend the laws passed by the Texas legislature.”

Cruz continued:

“One of those laws was a law restricting the sale of sex toys. A stupid law. Listen, I am one of the most libertarian members of the Senate. I think it is idiotic. But, it is an opportunity for knuckleheads in the media to claim, ‘Oh isn’t this ironic that Cruz wants to ban these things.’ No, I don’t. People ought to be able to do what they want in their own bedrooms…I am saying that consenting adults should be able to do whatever they want in their bedrooms. And you know the media and the left seem obsessed with sex. Let people do what they want.”

Following the discovery of the porn like, Cruz blamed it on a staffer, adding that it was an “honest mistake.”

In case you were wondering, the video that Cruz’s account liked has become the fastest video on PornHub to ever reach 1 million views.
