White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon on Thursday admonished the media for its coverage of the President Donald Trump’s administration while vowing that the president would achieve his campaign promises.

In a rare public appearance, the former Breitbart executive took the stage at CPAC alongside White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and the American Conservative Union’s chairman, Matt Schlapp.

Bannon insisted that the mainstream media’s coverage of “the chaos” at the Trump White House was as wrong as its coverage of the Trump campaign.

“I think if you look at, you know, the opposition party,” said Bannon, referring to the media, “how they portrayed the campaign, how they portrayed the transition and how they’re portraying the administration—it’s always wrong.”

The Trump White House has summarily dismissed more than a month of news coverage detailing errors and lapses in protocol ranging from Trump’s travel ban to the resignation of National Security Adviser Michael Flynn to the undermining of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos by Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Trump White House on the transgender bathroom policy.

Bannon said the mainstream media was “dead wrong” about the alleged chaos of the Trump campaign and transition and predicted that what he perceived to be an animosity between the press and the American public would only grow worse, as the media’s attacks increase.

“It’s not only not going to get better, it’s going to get worse every day in the media,” Bannon said.

Bannon dismissed the mainstream press as “corporatist, globalist” media that is opposed to Trump’s economic agenda.

“If you think [the media is] going to give you your country back without a fight,” Bannon said, “you are sadly mistaken.”
