It took almost a decade, but SpreadingSantorum.com, a site created by columnist Dan Savage in 2003 and popularized through Google bombing to disgrace former Sen. Rick Santorum’s name on Google, has an imitator. Welcome to SpreadingRomney.com.

The site, created by Web designer Jack Shepler, seeks to redefine Mitt Romney’s last name “To defecate in terror.” The definition is a reference to a story from the 1980s about how Romney put the family dog in a pet carrier strapped to the top of the car during a family vacation.

Legend has it that the dog actually “Romneyed” atop the car part way through the 12-hour trek to Ontario. Although the story came out in the Boston Globe in 2007, more details have emerged recently, including an off the record interview with someone in the Romney family who said the dog, an Irish Setter named Seamus, ran away once the family arrived in Canada.

Since the website was created in January, it has slowly made it’s way through the clutter on Google and this week it was one of the first results on a search of “Romney.”

And before you ask, yes, there is a SpreadingGingrich.com, but that site is still trying to define itself. As for for Texas Rep. Ron Paul? He hasn’t been spread around. Yet.
