That's one way to put it.

Despite being in the middle of the ongoing investigation into whether President Donald Trump’s campaign worked with Russia to help sway the 2016 election, Trump’s adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner appears to be cavalier about the situation.

Kushner, speaking to a group of interns, said his father-in-law’s presidential campaign couldn’t have colluded with Russia because they “couldn’t even collude with our local offices,” according to comments published by Foreign Policy.

The comments were made during a private conversation in Washington, D.C., on Monday, according to the website.

“They thought we colluded, but we couldn’t even collude with our local offices,” Kushner, a senior adviser to Trump, reportedly said.

Kushner also reportedly told the group of interns that he wasn’t sure where the investigation headed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller will go. Last week he met with members of Congress who are conducting their own inquiries into possible Russian ties with the Trump campaign and acknowledged meetings with Russians during and after his father-in-law’s election in November.

Kushner was present at a meeting Donald Trump Jr. had with a Russian lawyer last June who promised to deliver the Trump team damaging information on then-candidate Hillary Clinton. The meeting, which Trump Jr. confirmed took place by releasing a transcript of emails, is the first evidence that members of Trump’s team were at least willing to accept help from Russia during the campaign.
