The ‘Pod Save America’ Bros are losing it over Joe Biden’s newest ad

It's struck a chord with the centrists!

Center-left Twitter is losing its mind after presidential candidate Joe Biden released an ad Wednesday calling Trump “a president the world is laughing at.”

Biden tweeted the ad, in the wake of NATO leaders laughing at Trump, saying he is “dangerously incompetent and incapable of world leadership.”

Twitter had strong reactions.

Biden’s ad features a video of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson gossiping about President Trump. Though Trump is not mentioned by name, the world leaders were discussing someone who takes “40-minute press conferences.”

The ad also features a clip of Trump getting a laughed at the United Nations General Assembly after claiming his administration had accomplished more than “almost any administration in the history of our country,” and includes voiceovers of various newscasters reporting on the times Trump has been “laughed at” or “ridiculed.”

Those who love themselves some Joe Biden are eating it up. The ad has been viewed eight million times and retweeted 59,000 times. Tommy Vietor, co-host of Pod Save America, called the ad “the best anti-Trump ad I’ve seen yet” and said “most Americans, especially swing voters, don’t want to be embarrassed by their President. They want America to be respected.”

Jon Favreau, co-host of Pod Saves America, simply said: “this is a very smart ad.”

But right-wing Twitter is dubbing the ad elitist and ineffective. Conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro tweeted “I’m sure Michigan voters will resonate to the message that we must have a president respected by Emmanuel Macron and Justin Trudeau.”

Tim Miller, a former Pod Save America guest, fired back at Shapiro and called Trump “such a buffoon he stands out for his buffoonery in every room he’s in on the world stage.”

But not everyone is rushing to Biden’s defense and slamming Trump. Some feel Biden is getting too much credit for his anti-Trump ads, and don’t think anti-Trump rhetoric will help a Democratic nominee win in the long-run.

A lot are pointing out that Hillary Clinton focused on an anti-Trump narrative in 2016 and it was not nearly as effective as she hoped.

Biden is running from the same “let’s build on the Obama years” playbook that cost Clinton the election, so it’s not surprising he’d run a similar ad.
