Dennis Hof, the owner of a brothel in Nevada, handily won an election on Tuesday night to serve in the state’s assembly.

The only problem? Hof died last month.

Hof, who ran as a Republican, defeated a Democratic challenger in Nevada’s 36th Assembly District, the Associated Press reports. He was the owner of several brothels in the state and starred in an HBO show.

The news outlet reports that adult film actor Ron Jeremy discovered Hof dead last month at a brothel outside of Las Vegas. Republicans in the state are expected to appoint a replacement for him in the state Assembly.

Hof was accused of rape by a former employee of one of his brothels, according to the New Yorker.

While much of the attention on last night’s midterm elections focused on Democrats taking control of the House of Representatives, several people online found time to comment on the odd circumstances surrounding Hof’s state-level win.

“Dennis Hof May be dead, but folks … the American Dream is alive and well,” user Josh Billinson tweeted.
