Two of the United States Senate’s highest-profile firebrands are headed to CNN to debate the future of healthcare in America.
Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) will take part in a 90-minute debate over the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) at 9pm ET on Feb. 7, reports Politico.
Sanders and Cruz, both of whom ran for president in the 2016 primaries, stand on opposite ends of the spectrum with regard to the government’s role in the healthcare industry. Sanders campaigned on a promise to fight for universal healthcare, which would greatly expand Obamacare. Cruz, like many of his Republican colleagues in Congress, has consistently condemned Obamacare and fought for limited government influence.
The CNN debate comes amid an ongoing battle over the future of Obamacare, which President Donald Trump and Republican leaders have vowed to “repeal and replace.” Republican lawmakers have begun the process of dismantling former President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law, but a viable replacement has yet to materialize.
