Today, the House of Representatives is set to vote on articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. Prior to the vote, members were allowed six hours to debate the matter.
Although debate really isn’t the proper word, as just about everyone already has their mind made up. Instead, it’s six hours of bluster to make as bold a statement as possible, about how offensive Trump’s conduct was, or how offended you are that people would even try to impeach Trump.
Take Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), who made this bold claim regarding Trump and Jesus.
Who had a rougher time, Loudermilk asked? The president of America, or … Jesus, who was tried and executed.

“When Jesus was falsely accused of treason, Pontius Pilate gave Jesus the opportunity to face his accusers. During that sham trial, Pontius Pilate afforded more rights to Jesus than Democrats have afforded to this president,” Loudermilk said from the House floor.

Trump and his surrogates have argued they have not been given a fair trial, even though—it must be said ad nauseam—this is an investigation and indictment, a vote in favor of which will lead to a trial in the Senate. This is not a trial.

The House vote is slated for 6pm CT, though the debate is poised to push well past that.
