Top Trump administration officials have asked the entire 100-member Senate to attend a briefing on North Korea at the White House on Wednesday, according to senior aides.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coates, General Joseph Dunford, and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff have all asked the senators to join a briefing after North Korea’s nuclear and missile tests—and its threats to attack the United States.

While senators typically travel to Washington, D.C., for foreign policy and national security matters, the briefing marks an unusual event. White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said that although the event will take place at the White House, it is a Senate briefing and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will be convening it.

President Trump talked to China’s President Xi and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Monday over the escalating situation. U.S commercial satellite images indicated an increase in activity around North Korea’s nuclear test site and South Korea’s defense ministry said North Korea could conduct “provocations” at any time.

North Korea said the country is in its final stage for an intercontinental ballistic missile launch.

The briefing will take place at 3pm ET and the White House is working to set up the similar briefing with members of the House of Representatives.
