The woman, identified as Nirupama Prajapati, was near a popular waterfall in the Sundargarh district of Odisha on Jan. 3 at the time of the incident.

Footage of the accident shows Prajapati taking a selfie on the water’s edge when a man, presumably looking to take a picture of his own, slips and knocks her over.

The video ends with Prajapati being taken away by the river as onlookers scream in the background.

Firefighters as well as Prajapati’s family, according to the New York Post, spent the following 22 hours searching for her body. Prajapati was eventually found less than a quarter-mile away underwater.

The man who inadvertently pushed Prajapati while falling has not been identified.

Unfortunately, such incidents appear to be an increasingly common occurrence.

Just in 2020, a popular Instagram model from the U.K. fell off a cliff at a so-called selfie hotspot in Australia.
