A young woman has filed a restraining order against Diplo, with her attorney claiming that she seeks to prevent him from “distributing revenge porn” of her client.
The woman, who runs the @ThatsSoShellyy Twitter account and goes simply by “Shelly” on the app, accused the 42-year-old DJ and songwriter (born Thomas Wesley Pentz) of gaslighting her and hiring a private investigator “to scare me into not speaking out on the disgusting details I know about him” in a viral thread dated Oct. 26. The private investigator allegedly told her that he knew the addresses and workplaces of her and her parents.
“Take that as you may but most people will take that as a threat,” Shelly wrote.
Shelly added that she had no “will or intention to expose Diplo” as they have known each other for years, but she came to her decision after realizing he was a “huge manipulating liar / gaslighter who PREYS on young [women] of ALL races (to be honest) But primarily young naive women of color.”
Later in her thread, Shelly added that “Diplo has actually FILMED sexual activity without permission. I SPECIFICALLY asked him not too & his reply was ‘fuck it. I’m recording this.’”
In addition to the accusations she made regarding herself, Shelly included screenshots from an anonymous woman who claimed to have had a similar interaction with Diplo 10 years ago. The screenshots show both parties discussing whether they could have given each other any sexually transmitted diseases.
“So wait do I have anything or not? I’m confused,” Diplo writes. “Cause I don’t … Also I slept w beyonce too.” Later, he threatens to file a restraining order against the woman and says he had to get a new phone because she was “so insane.”
“HIS USE OF INTIMIDATION & GASLIGHTING GOES AS FAR BACK AS 10 years!!!!!!” Shelly tweeted. “The girl who reached out to me is still IN FEAR OVER HIM!!! He threatened to GET A RESTRAINING ORDER ON HER FOR ASKING HIM WHAT STD HE GAVE HER & WHY IT WASNT DISCLOSED!!!!”
Shelly’s attorney, Lisa Bloom—who advised disgraced film mogul Harvey Weinstein amid his 2017 sexual abuse cases—told the Daily Dot in a statement, “I am proud to represent a young woman with serious allegations of misconduct against Diplo. We have reviewed her claims, and spoken to several other women. We find her to be credible and brave. We recently filed for a restraining order to prevent Diplo or anyone associated with him from distributing revenge porn images of my client, which is illegal and often done to discourage accusers from coming forward.”
Diplo’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, provided the following statement to the Daily Dot: “Unfortunately, this individual has been harassing my client and his family for more than a year and has repeatedly refused to stop doing so. To be clear, in no way has my client violated any law. In fact, he has repeatedly made it clear that he wants nothing whatsoever to do with this person—and simply needs her ongoing harassment of his family to end.”
