Former professional MMA fighter and UFC athlete Jon Koppenhaver, otherwise known as “War Machine,” will serve life in prison with a possibility of parole in 36 years for the 2014 assault of his ex-girlfriend and porn star Christy Mackinday, aka Christy Mack, and her friend Corey Thomas.

According to Fox Sports, Koppenhaver’s sentencing on Monday follows his March trial in Las Vegas, during which he was found guilty of 29 out of 34 charges, including sexual assault, kidnapping, coercion, and battery. The jury was also hung on two charges of attempted murder.

According to Deadspin, in August 2014, Koppenhaver broke into Mackinday’s home and physically assaulted her and Thomas, who was also at the residence. He then attempted to rape Mackinday, but she escaped. Koppenhaver fled police but was captured days later in California, and attempted suicide when he was in jail.

During his sentencing, Koppenhaver expressed remorse for his actions, though Mackinday told the court that if Koppenhaver were to be released from prison, he would kill her.

Koppenhaver will be eligible for parole in 2053, at the age of 71.
