“Type-Writer” still clicks

Typewriters may be old technology, but they're all the rage on the Web's hippest handicrafts site.

On June 23, 1868, one Christoher Latham received a patent for an invention he called the “Type-Writer.”

Your aching wrists can call him the father of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Still, we celebrate the birth of this essential business invention by scanning Etsy for actual typewriters as well as crafts made from typewriter parts.

Typewriters are so iconic, they even show up in forest paintings (see below). And some crafters at the do-it-yourself site have even recreated the typewriter experience for the computer age. Have fun.
