Guess how much a fast food chain raised for foster kids with a sponsored tweet.

Forget paying it forward—just tweet it.

That’s the message that Wendy’s had for its followers on Twitter in June.

Unrecorded

The campaign helped raise $50,000 for children in foster care and recently earned Twitter’s Golden Tweet Award for 2011.

As addressed yesterday by Daily Dot Executive Editor Owen Thomas, however, the subtext to Twitter’s year in review has been about what the microblogging site wants to project to the general community.

In this case, Twitter Inc. gets to reward an advertiser while championing the successfulness of its promoted tweets. At 50 cents a pop, the message was retweeted roughly 100,000 times and generated an immeasurable number of impressions. Just think of how much A company would be willing to pay for that kind of exposure, social media presence, and general goodwill.

There’s a lot of power to that positivity. And in such cases where there’s a charitable cause involved, I’ll gladly tweet it forward.
