Singer Gavin DeGraw was brutally beaten Monday morning by three unknown men and clipped by a taxi after a night of drinking in New York City’s Lower East Side, according to the Washington Post.

DeGraw’s was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was treated for a broken nose and cuts, reported the Post.

News of his injuries spread on Twitter like wildfire where fans and fellow musicians made the singer a trending topic.

“Our friend Gavin DeGraw got jumped in NYC tonight and is hospitalized,” tweeted singer Ernie Halter. “Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”

“Please send your love to @gavindegraw tonight,” tweeted Adam Levine, the lead singer of Maroon 5. “We love you buddy. Get well and get back out here!”

DeGraw, whose songs include “Chariot” and “I’m in Love with a Girl,” was on tour with Maroon 5 and Train. His injuries forced him to cancel a performance Tuesday in Saratoga Springs, New York.

In the meantime, hundreds of other folks on Twitter found the news of DeGraw’s injuries, the London riots and the U.S. stock market plunge a lot to handle.

“Sometimes I just don’t understand people,” tweeted Amy Galloway (@canegirl4ever) of Clio, Calif. “Horrible things are happening in London & Gavin DeGraw is brutally attacked in NY :(“

“London’s burning, US won’t shut the fuck up about our own problems long enough to see the bigger picture, AND Gavin Degraw gets beat up?? #worstweekevertweeted @socialcasualty.
