A viral video shows a woman yelling at a nurse to “go to China if you want Communism” amid a coronavirus lockdown protest.
The incident was captured Sunday as healthcare workers stood in the streets. They were counterprotesting against the hundreds gathered at the Colorado State Capitol to demand that stay-at-home orders be lifted.
Scott Dworkin, co-founder of the Democratic Coalition, posted the video to Twitter where it received over 13 million views.
Unrest has been building as Americans face unemployment and small businesses struggle to stay afloat.
Over the weekend, protesters gathered around the country to oppose lockdown measures meant to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus. On Twitter, users were outraged by the video of a protester yelling at frontline healthcare workers.
Actress Kristen Johnston tweeted her disbelief.
“I can’t believe these Denver healthcare workers had to do this,” she wrote. “Like they aren’t already risking their lives.”
Many others condemned the woman for telling the healthcare worker to “go to China.”
On Monday, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-diseases expert, responded to the protests that occurred this weekend.
“The message is that clearly this is something that is hurting, from the standpoint of economics and the standpoint of things that have nothing to do with the virus,” he stated. “But unless we get the virus under control, the real recovery economically is not going to happen.”
