‘Normal People’ creators demand Pornhub take down 22-minute sex scene compilation

The producers of the Hulu show Normal People demanded that a 22-minute compilation video of the sex scenes in the show get removed from Pornhub.

When Hulu released Normal People, the mini-series adapted from Sally Rooney’s 2018 book, it sent quarantiners into a frenzy. The Ireland-based show follows the off-again, on-again relationship between Connell Waldron (Paul Mescal) and Marianne Sheridan (Daisy Edgar-Jones). It’s the BBC’s raunchiest drama in history, clocking in at 41 minutes of sex, according to the Sun.

Intimacy coach Ita O’Brien lent her expertise to make the sex scenes look as realistic as possible in the show. And while the show’s creators have expressed pride in creating believable intimate moments, they’re not OK with those moments making it to a porn tube site.

“We’re hugely disappointed that excerpts from the series of Normal People have been used in this way,” said Ed Guiney, executive producer of Normal People, in an interview with Variety. “It’s both a violation of copyright and more importantly, it’s deeply disrespectful to the actors involved and to the wider creative team.”

Vice President of Pornhub, Corey Price, told Variety: “Pornhub is fully compliant with the law. We respect all copyright requests and as soon as we become aware of the existence of these types of videos on our site, we have them removed.”

Despite PornHub’s removal of the video, clips of intimate scenes from Normal People remain on other sites. Producers often work with anti-piracy companies to track down sites that are publishing copyrighted material.

If copyrighted material is found, takedown letters are sent to the site asking them to remove the content. According to Variety, most popular sites will remove the content, but if they do not comply, “the producer would have to resort to other legal remedies.”
