How to actually score the NES Classic Edition on release day

It's going to be a challenge to get it on day one, but not impossible.

By now, you’ve probably heard about the NES Classic Edition, Nintendo’s upcoming miniature version of the iconic ‘80s gaming system. It comes out tomorrow, and it’s already becoming clear just how hard it will be to get.

Amazon told the Daily Dot that it has “very limited stock” of the NES Classic and that it will go on sale at 2 pm PT, 5 pm EST. If you intend to score it there, move like the wind. You can also sign up to be notified by email when it’s available here.

If you don’t want to wait that long, try GameStop first thing Friday morning. The listing is already available online, which you can find here. GameStop said that it also anticipates the systems selling out extremely fast. Once they are no longer available online, the company recommends customers use the pick-up in store button on the page to locate a GameStop near them with inventory remaining.

Target also has a listing already available. You can also expect to find them online at Best Buy. It’s unclear if they will be available in stores as well as online.

We’ve reached out to Target and Best Buy to confirm more information. One thing is certain: It’s more than likely to be limited anywhere, so take advantage of notification settings and check them out early if you have a plan of attack.

If you don’t get one on launch day, you can likely try eBay for third-party sellers. But be prepared to spend a fair amount more than $59.99 for it. Some are already selling “pre-orders” on the site at $115 and up. (We don’t recommend doing that.)

Otherwise, you could drag your old NES games out of storage in the meantime or try a multi-console system, if you really can’t wait any longer to play.

Best of luck, gamers!
