Everyone’s struggling to keep up amid the coronavirus pandemic—including Lady Gaga’s dad.
On Friday, Joe Germanotta tweeted that his New York City restaurant would be closed for the next month. He asked the public for $50,000 to cover wages for his furloughed staff, according to media reports.
His restaurant, Joanne Trattoria, is located in the Upper West Side.
“I’m doing the best I can but we had to close Joanne for the month,” Germanotta wrote in a since-deleted tweet, according to Newsweek. “Our staff needs some help financial. Any help for our employees will be appreciated.”
“Our goal of $50,000 would cover our typical payroll for approximately 2 weeks, and 100% of the profits would go to our hourly workers to provide those necessary items like food, childcare, and medical expenses,” he continued.
Germanotta, 64, also created a GoFundMe page, noting the restaurant “has had to lay off almost 30 employees until we are able to reopen our doors,” according to Fox News. The page has since been deleted.
But several Twitter users noted out that Germanotta’s own daughter earned a whopping $39.5 million in 2019, according to a report by Forbes.
“Let me get this straight… Lady Gaga’s dad owns a restaurant in NYC, and bc of the virus, his restaurant had to close temporarily. He’s asking the public for donations to pay his employees, when his daughter is worth HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS? BRUH WHAT,” tweeted user @blahblahblah187.
Restaurants across the nation have shuttered their businesses in an effort to mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus. Several state officials have ordered restaurants to only sell take-out or drive-thru, and have forbidden dining in.
