Woman turns down arranged marriage after man asks her to give up her dog

Karishma Walia loves her dog Lucy. Lucy even has her own Facebook page.

The two are inseparable. So when the man Walia was talking to told her to give up Lucy, it was a dealbreaker.

The couple—she from Bengaluru, India, he from New Delhi—were in talks for an arranged marriage. “My mom thought he was an excellent match because he’s good looking and well off,” Walia told BuzzFeed. But when the guy told her Lucy would be a problem—noting, “I don’t want a dog to come between my love life and not share the same bed,” also mentioning that his mom didn’t like dogs—the marriage was off.

There were other signs, too, Walia said. He told her that family should come before career, but it was his intolerance of Lucy that was the final straw.

Her family thinks she made the wrong decision, according to BuzzFeed, and the anti-dog-haver is still angry. Thankfully, Walia is finding support on the internet.

Walia herself is also happy with her decision. 

She also posted the BuzzFeed article to Compassion Unlimited Plus‘s Facebook page, writing, “How dogs save us from getting in trouble in every possible way.”
