Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison on Wednesday on rape and sexual assault charges. In a statement during the sentencing, Weinstein expressed remorse but still made it about himself: “I think men are confused about all of this. This feeling of thousands of men and women who are losing due process… I’m worried about this country.”

On Tuesday, thousands of pages of court documents were unsealed and made public, Weinstein’s efforts to not be held accountable and stay shielded by powerful associates.

According to Variety, Weinstein wrote in an October 2017 email, “Jen Aniston should be killed,” in response to an inquiry from the National Enquirer about allegations that Weinstein groped Aniston. (Her rep told Variety the allegation is untrue.)

The documents also revealed that Ben Affleck was on Weinstein’s “red flag list,” which reportedly tracked people he thought might talk to the press about his misconduct. The list was brought up during his New York trial in reference to accuser Annabella Sciorra. Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland, producer Jason Blum, and Rose McGowan were also on the list.

In the wake of an October 2017 New York Times exposé detailing the accusations against him, Weinstein sent desperate emails to Apple’s Tim Cook and Eddy Cue, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Mike Bloomberg, and Quentin Tarantino.

According to Variety, Weinstein wrote to Sarandos, “I need your friendship now.” He told Bezos: “There are many false allegations and over time, we’ll prove it, but right now, I’m the poster boy for bad behavior.” An email from Weinstein’s brother, Bob, was more to the point: “U deserve a lifetime achievement award for the sheer savagery and immorality and inhumanness, for the acts u have perpetrated.”

Weinstein will be a registered sex offender in New York and still faces charges in California.
