Free, ethical porn: The best tube sites for watching porn responsibly

It’s an age-old smut fan’s dilemma: free porn or ethical porn? It’s rare to find both. If you’re watching high quality, studio-made adult content without paying a dime, chances are you’re actually looking at pirated videos. This tends to be the case on “tube sites” like Pornhub, where anyone can upload a video for free, and stolen content may stay online without coming down.

For the uninitiated, the Daily Dot’s Claire Lampen describes “ethical porn” as “fair trade porn made with performers’ rights and well-being in mind.” In other words, it’s porn where studios communicate openly and honestly with performers. But “ethical tube site” is a bit of an oxymoron. Performers and crew members need to be compensated for their hard work, hence why monthly subscriptions and a la carte adult clip sites are so popular.

Most writers will tell you that there’s only one way to ethically consume porn: Pay for it. But there are plenty of people who want to support adult content creators but just can’t for myriad reasons, from a financial emergency to a strict household where even a discreet “CCBill” charge leads to 1,000 questions. Luckily, free ethical porn is growing in popularity, and it’s around to enjoy if you look hard enough for it. Here are some of the best ethical tube sites for responsible porn viewing, ranked based on what they bring to the table.

How to find ethical porn

Lampen notes ethical porn defers to stars’ “preferences and bodily autonomy” and “features performers with a range of figures.” It decanters the male gaze, respects workers’ labor, compensates models fairly, and embraces all sorts of sexual preferences and desires—particularly queer ones. While our tube site recommendations below feature many different kinds of ethical porn, even the best ethical tube sites require some due diligence. Research the studios, performers, and users you watch and make sure they treat others fairly in the industry. Think about the messages found within the clips you see and if they feel affirming or bigoted. And most importantly of all, make sure to report any pirated content to a site’s owner ASAP.

The best ethical porn tube sites

1) Best feminist ethical tube site: Bellesa

free ethical porn sites - bellesa Bellesa

A couple of years ago, feminist porn site Bellesa found itself in hot water for running a “tube” site with pirated content. After receiving criticism from sex workers and feminist journalists, Bellesa had a change of heart and immediately restructured its site’s approach to adult content. Today, Bellesa shares full-length clips through partnerships with distributors and studios. The site only hosts videos that it has the right to stream, and the end result is a lengthy catalog of porn made with women and queer folks in mind, all hosted with permission from its creators. Highlights include Lustery’s “Homemade Bondage,” SweetSinner’s “Katie Falls for Prof. Manuel,” and SexArt’s “Sweet, Sensual Morning.”

Bellesa’s video categories range from sensual porn to rough sex, BDSM to orgies, and even lesbian porn (as well as some boy-on-boy fun). The site also features a live cam section, an erotica story archive, and an editorial vertical called “Collective.” Bellesa’s new direction is a far cry from its messy start, and it’s easily one of the best ethical tube sites available for folks who want to get off without feeling like a thief afterward.

2) Best cam ethical tube site: Nood.tvfree ethical porn - nood tv Nood.tv

There are plenty of cam sites out there, but Nood.tv isn’t like other cam sites. Founded by adult streamer Chloe Lewis in 2015, Nood aims to create a platform where adult streamers “feel respected and secure.” This means adult performers’ needs are prioritized throughout the community, and most Nood streamers are independent adult performers running their own DIY setups. On the user’s end, Nood lets viewers check out any number of models streaming live content along with a running list of past streams. While only a handful of models are streaming at a time, that number steadily increases closer to 11pm and 12am CT.

Nood is still growing, but the site already features a clean user interface with quick load times and zero skeevy ads. Staying true to its ethical cam site roots, the service plans to host a profile system and let users access past streams if the performer allows it, either by offering them for free or through tokens. In the near future, Nood performers will be able to send their streams to Chaturbate, too, so they can appear on both sites at once with ease. Check out the site’s road map on Trello for more details.

3) Best overall ethical tube site: MV Tube

free ethical porn sites - manyvids mv tube ManyVids

In November 2018, ManyVids came up with a solution to piracy and viruses on porn tube sites: MV Tube. Billing it as “the world’s first free and ethical tube site,” ManyVids introduced MV Tube as part of a larger “movement” for free independent porn uploaded only by performers and creators. One year later, MV Tube has turned into a sizable aggregate for free videos uploaded by ManyVids performers, or “MV Stars.” Adult content creators are welcome to upload anything from clip previews to interviews to full-sized videos. MV Tube features relatively competitive payout rates, too. In February, ManyVids increased the ethical tube site’s payout to $0.67 for every collective 1,000 views per month. Unlike other tube sites, ManyVids has no ads, and the company vows to remove pirated videos, arguing that “stolen content hurts all of us and has a negative effect on everyone in the industry.”

MV Tube is easily the best tube site on our list for one simple reason: It puts so much control in the performers’ hands. It’s expansive, pays models decently, gives users a wide selection of kinky and vanilla categories, and is relatively easy to navigate. For sample content, check out some of MV Tube’s most popular categories, including “bondage,” “eating,” and “reality porn.” Additionally, users can differentiate between different queer content categories on the site, such as “MV Gay Boys” or “MV Trans.”

Addendum: Verified-only Pornhub browsing

free ethical porn sites - pornhub Pornhub

Wait, Pornhub hosts ethical porn? Well, sort of.

While MindGeek’s site has its fair share of problems, it does offer viewers a way to watch clips directly uploaded by producers and studios, assuring these content creators are the ones deciding to put their work on the site. Performers can verify their profile, upload freebies, and even make money off their clips’ ad revenue with the Pornhub Model Payment Program. Because of Pornhub’s enormous popularity, many adult content creators inevitably upload their clips onto the site and sign up for the user payment program. Performer Femdomommy, for instance, has over 40 free videos available along with four photo albums. Adult model Lana Bee has just over a dozen clips, along with 13 paid videos available. You can find more performers by heading over to the site’s popular verified members section or searching for videos from verified amateurs and models.

Choosing to use Pornhub for your ethical porn is a grey area at best. You’re still giving traffic to the site, and just because a model or studio is doing business with Pornhub doesn’t necessarily mean the content is ethically produced. One Pornhub content partner, Girls Do Porn, was recently sued by over 20 women for “fraud, emotional distress damages, and misappropriation of their likeness,” leading Motherboard to conclude that Pornhub “enables doxing and harassment.” Including Pornhub on our main list is impossible, since the site in and of itself isn’t ethical.

But if you absolutely refuse to view your porn on any other site than Pornhub, at least send your views to a performer that’s voluntarily chosen to host their content on the site. Your click can translate to more exposure or even an ad revenue payout. While it’s not ideal, settling for Pornhub’s verified system is much better than logging on and browsing through its pirated videos. Just make sure to do your research before clicking away at every blue checkmark.
