A car accident left Pascale Honore paralyzed from the waist down 18 years ago. After her injury, Honore found ways to stay active, but she’s always been fascinated by surfing. She would often watch her son and his friends in the ocean.

Finally, one friend, Tyron Swan, figured out a way to get Honore closer to the sea: duct-tape surfing.

Duct-taped to Swan’s back, Honore took to the seas of Australia. A short film about her journey was released last year.

As she explains, it’s a way for her to experience the ocean and feel like it’s really her moving across the waves.
