Thanks to YouTube star Davey Wavey, a man named Norm has become a gay porn star. And he’s 83 years old.
In a video posted to his YouTube channel this weekend, Wavey, who boasts more than 1 million subscribers, introduced Norm to the world and explained why he was so important to how and why we think about sex. Wavey announced last month that he was launching a new gay porn company called Himeros.tv that he said would reinvent the genre, where he would focus on sex along with connections and intimacy.
“It is like porn, but better,” he said. “It’s not so much about getting you off but getting you in. In touch with your body, in touch with your partner, in touch with your desires.”
Proving that Himeros.tv is not going to show you typical gay porn content, the channel introduced the YouTube world to Norm.
The video is a preview of a longer video called “Blessing of the Elder.” In the preview, Norm discusses masturbating for the first time at 12 years old and how, growing up in a religious family, he perceived it at the time. In the full video, available only to Himeros.tv subscribers, he’s filmed rubbing his body and masturbating.
As Waves writes, “In the gay world, it often seems like youth is the only currency of value. Norm, and so many gay men like him, have so much to offer our community—including wisdom, experience and, yes, beauty.”
Wavey understands that people aren’t used to seeing 83-year-old men in their porn. But that’s part of the point he’s making.
“Most of us aren’t accustomed to thinking about our elders in a sexual context at all,” he wrote in a blog post. “It’s why people laugh at Betty White’s comedy. If she were 20 or 30, her sex jokes wouldn’t work in the same way; the humor is only funny coming from the mouth of a 96-year-old. The implication is that seniors don’t think about sex, aren’t sexy, and surely aren’t having sex. Of course, none of that is true. Seniors, just like everyone else, think about sex. In fact, some of the horniest people I know are elders. And I can promise you that they are having sex.”
Wavey said Norm, who came out later in life, is having the best sex of his life now. And he hopes that with the help of Norm, his porn site can help expand people’s minds.
“I know that including Norm in a video may not change people’s preferences—but I do hope it widens their perceptions around elders and sexuality,” Wavey told Gay Star News. “Passionate, powerful, and ecstatic sex isn’t just for young people. It’s for all of us.”
