Respawn Entertainment, the developer of one of the most innovative and exciting shooter games in years, Titanfall, is developing a new Star Wars game for Electronic Arts.

“EA and the talented team at Respawn Entertainment have expanded our relationship to include the development of an all-new [third] person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe,” Patrick Söderlund, executive vice president of EA Studios, said in a statement on the Electronic Arts blog.

“The entire company erupted in cheers when it was announced that this would be our next endeavor,” Stig Asmussen, game director for the acclaimed third-person action title God of War III and now game director at Respawn Entertainment, wrote on the company’s blog.

Respawn’s first game, Titanfall, impressed players and critics with its use of parkour movement and one-person mechs called Titans, creating a first-person shooter that felt fresh—an appreciable feat in the crowded FPS genre.

Respawn was founded by Jason West and Vince Zampella, the creators of Call of Duty, the game franchise that set standards for modern FPS games with the release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

In other words, EA just called in some extremely heavy hitters to produce a new Star Wars game. Respawn is also hiring creature and environment concepts artists specifically for this project, which suggests the creation of new worlds for the game.
