Have trouble making friends? Don’t worry. All you need to do is grab a Nintendo 3DS, get a copy of Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon, and you’ll have pals in no time.

Nintendo today revealed the starter Pokémon, i.e. the Pokémon monsters you’ll have access to at the beginning of the two new games before you start your collecting.

Rowlet, an owl-like Pokémon who spits green fireballs; Litten, a cat-like Pokémon who spits orange fireballs; and Popplio, a seal-like Pokémon that squirts water, are the new starter Pokémon.

Any new release in the franchise is bound to make waves in game culture, and the starter Pokémon were enough to send fans in a tizzy. These are the folks who will be your new friends if you get in on the Pokémon behemoth.

The Japanese ad for the new games has a ton of heart, speaking less to the “come buy this” aspect of the two new Pokémon games, and much more to the social connections that are genuinely formed around the mega-popular series.

The American commercial spot is more about “Here are the new things you get to buy,” of course. No one can accuse Nintendo of not knowing its audiences.

Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon will be released for the Nintendo 3DS and 2DS on Nov. 18.
