Can you handle Mario Kart 8’s ludicrously fast new speed setting?

A new Mario Kart 8 update will include a 200cc mode, the fastest the series has ever gone.

It may sound like an April Fools’ joke, but it’s not. Along with the upcoming Animal Crossing DLC for Mario Kart 8, Nintendo will also add a 200cc speed mode. If you thought you couldn’t handle the insanity of 150cc on Rainbow Road, 200cc will pretty much be impossible.

From the trailer above you can see how the added speed will affect gameplay. Chasms that were once difficult to cross can now become advantageous shortcuts, assuming you have the necessary skill to stay on the track. The higher speeds will also force players to let go of the acceleration and brake to avoid falling off a ledge.

The update will be coming on April 23 and will be free for all players. Sadly, Nintendo did not announce the ability to toggle off individual items, like you can do in Smash Bros., meaning that the pesky blue shell will be there to get you, regardless of how fast you’re going.
