Sunday night’s lunar eclipse had people around the world staying up late to spot the so-called “blood moon.”

Lunar eclipses happen fairly often, but this one was especially important because it coincided with the full moon being at its closest point to Earth. This caused it to look unusually large and bright to the naked eye, leading to stunning images of the moon appearing huge and red during the eclipse.

Stargazers stayed up late or got up early to catch sight of the phenomenon, posting some truly stunning photos and videos online.

The blood moon was also linked to a Biblical apocalypse prophecy, but you have probably noticed by now that the world has not, in fact, ended. Congratulations to everyone for dodging yet another preordained armageddon.
