Constantine the show may have been cancelled, but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of Constantine the character.

Matt Ryan, who played the character on the NBC series, will reprise his role in a one-off episode of Arrow as part of the CW show’s fourth-season introduction of more “mystical” characters.

DC Comics fans have long been hoping for an Arrow/Constantine crossover, but this would have been difficult while Constantine was still airing on NBC. Now that Constantine has been cancelled, Matt Ryan is free to appear on Arrow. Such are the intricacies of DC’s multiple unconnected TV franchises.

Aside from the obvious DC Comics connection, Constantine and the CW’s Arrow/Flash universe don’t have a great deal in common. One is a dark fantasy series, while the other follows the traditional superhero-vigilante concept. That being said, Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim is already teasing how John Constantine might fit into the show.

With the introduction of the Lazarus Pit (which resurrected Sara Lance for the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow spinoff series), Arrow is opening itself up to more supernatural themes. This, obviously, is where someone like Constantine comes in. Marc Guggenheim told TV Insider:

“Unlike Thea, who wasn’t fully dead, the consequences of using the pit on someone as dead as Sara was creates some unforeseen difficulties…and John Constantine is uniquely suited to help our team deal with those.”

So, we’re probably going to see some demons on Arrow
