When the trailer for WoodRocket’s Game of Thrones parody, Game of Bones [SFW], was released on YouTube a few weeks ago, the Internet did three things: 1) ask, “Hey, wait, isn’t Game of Thrones pretty close to porn already?,” 2) tweet a bunch of porn puns at James Deen, and 3) wonder how A Song of Ice and Fire scribe George R.R. Martin, noted curmudgeon and gleeful dream-killer, would respond.
As it turns out, George R.R. Martin wasn’t pissed off about Game of Bones; rather, he seems to be amused by how tame it is compared to the original. While appearing at the Santa Fe Independent Film Festival, Martin joked about Lee Roy Myers’s adaptation of his series, which stars James Deen as Jon Snow (read our interview here!).
The author actually argued that his books are inherently smuttier.
“There is an incestuous relationship at the heart of Game of Thrones and you find out about it pretty early in the first book,” Martin said to the event’s cohost, John Adams screenwriter Kirk Ellis, referring to the illicit affair between brother and sister Cersei and Jaime Lannister.
“But in the porn version that they’re doing they’ve omitted the incest because that would just be too shocking. So my books are actually dirtier than the porn version!”
According to AVN News, Myers has previously commented on his decision to excise the Cersei/Jaime relationship from his porn parody, saying that the relationship is “taboo”: “At WoodRocket, we typically try and avoid incest as a running theme in porn.”
So there you have it: George R.R. Martin’s mind is sicker than a porn director’s. But given what happened to poor Theon Greyjoy last season, are you really that surprised?
