If you were hoping that “Call Me Maybe” was going away anytime soon, you might have to wait a little longer.
Carly Rae Jepsen’s hit is on top of the Billboard Hot 100, has already been covered or parodied by the likes of Tay Zonday, college “bros” from all over the country, characters from Star Wars, President Obama, and the Cookie Monster. The Daily Dot even created a Tumblr whose only purpose is to aggregate and keep track of “Call Me Maybe” parodies.
But now The Dark Knight Rises has gotten in on the action.
YouTube channel wekejay is the latest to parody Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” in a Batman-themed parody—not to mention spoilerific if you haven’t seen The Dark Knight Rises—called “Batman Maybe.”
Wesley Freitas takes on the role of John Blake, made famous by actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as he channels Jepsen to serenade Bruce Wayne/Batman, played by Russ Russo, and to let him know that he believes in him and to go out fighting crime again..
“And all the orphan boys tried to haze me. I know you’re Batman so stop being lazy,” Freitas says.
Catwoman, Bane, and Commissioner Gordon, and Nightwing all make cameos as Blake plays out the role he played in The Dark Knight Rises in song form. He convinces Wayne to fix himself up with a leg brace and, more importantly, to “shave his mustache.”
They might not get along in the movie, but with Bane on drums, Catwoman on violin, Batman on guitar, Gordon on keyboard guitar and Blake with the vocals, these characters make a pretty good band.
