YouTuber scores drinks with Jason Segel

Want to date a celebrity?  Apparently, all you have to do is compose a song then sing it on YouTube.

YouTube is the best way to meet celebrities, hands down.

Six days ago, Chelsea Gill uploaded a video of her serenading actor Jason Segel on a guitar. Her original song begins with “when I was young, I was told to follow my dreams” before devolving into lyrics like  “oh Jason Segel, you’re the ring to my Smeagol” and “can’t you see, you’re so fucking hot, but I digress.”

In the song, she asks Segel to have a drink with her, and sing her a ballad.

It apparently worked—at least in part.

Segel saw the video two days later, tweeting “My favorite thing, maybe ever. I am in awe. Response on the way.”

On Saturday, when Segel was in Chicago to accept an award from the Chicago Film Critics Association,  Gill was with him. Afterward, the two, in the company of Gill’s twin sister, had drinks at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. It is unclear if Segel sang Gill a ballad.

Segel even tweeted a photo of the meeting.

The following day, Gill took to YouTube to comment on the meeting.

“Just to respond, Jason is the nicest guy you will ever meet. Took me for drinks and to an award show. Definitely the coolest guy. Such a sweetheart!” wrote Gill in a comment on her YouTube video.

She did not elaborate how Segel got in touch with her but  before she could meet him, she had to go through a round of background checks. “What’s so funny is that we’re in such a weird litigious society, my agents and managers and lawyers were like ‘we have to do a background check.’ ” Segel told reporters, which explained the tweet he sent out immediately after posting her video in which he said “I’m gonna need a couple days on this one.”

Gill isn’t the first to use YouTube as a way to meet a celebrity. Last year, marines asked out both Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake via YouTube video.

Using YouTube doesn’t always merit overnight success; Morgan Tucker is still trying to get One Direction to meet her ailing friend Haley Paterson.
