So far, Sinéad O’Connor’s open letter to Miley Cyrus has inspired hundreds of responses and Twitter arguments, and generally just added more grist to the Miley Cyrus publicity mill.
On one level, the feud (if you can even call it that) can be viewed as a clash between two generations of feminism. On another, it just looks like another grumpy middle-aged lady telling a party girl to put more clothes on. Either way, Miley is probably winning, thanks to the typically frustrating young-person response of “I don’t care enough to pay attention to you”. Or:

Burn.
The latest updates in the saga include from O’Connor (“You could really do with educating yourself, that is if you’re not too busy getting your tits out to read.”), and a rather more forgiving open letter from musician and internet celebrity Amanda Palmer. But more importantly, Palmer recorded an acoustic ukulele “peace offering” mashup of Wrecking Ball and Nothing Compares 2 U.
They fit together strangely well, don’t they? And who knows, maybe if Miley and Sinéad end up watching this, then music will be able to heal this divide where thousands and thousands of words have failed.
But probably not.
